Engine installation & re-engining

Full engine installations and re-engining projects, sized and specified for your boat, with the supporting systems planned in from day one.

Overview

A re-engine is more than swapping a lump.

Replacing an engine is the right call when the existing one is past economical repair, or when you want a step change in reliability, fuel use, or noise. Done well, it transforms how a boat handles. Done badly, it creates years of small problems.

We handle re-engining and first-time engine installs from initial spec through to commissioning. That means looking at the whole installation: bed and mounts, exhaust route, fuel and water cooling, electrics, controls, instrumentation, and the ergonomics of future servicing.

Brand and model recommendations are based on your boat, your usage, and the support network nearby, not on what is easiest to source. You get a clear quote, a planned timeline, and a single point of contact throughout.

What's included

What a full installation covers.

  • Engine selection and quote, with options and trade-offs explained in plain English
  • Old engine de-commissioning, disconnection, and removal coordination
  • Bed preparation, new mounts, alignment to shaft or saildrive
  • Fuel system: tanks, lines, primary and secondary filters, shut-offs
  • Cooling: raw water route, exchangers, header tank, anti-syphon
  • Exhaust: lagged dry sections, water-injected sections, sound traps
  • Electrics: start and house wiring, alternators, charge management
  • Controls and instrumentation: throttle, gear, panel, alarms
  • Commissioning runs, alignment under load, handover and paperwork

Process

How a re-engine project runs.

  1. Survey and spec

We visit the boat, review the existing install, and write a clear specification with engine options to compare.

  2. Quote and schedule

Itemised quote covering engine, ancillaries, and labour. Lead times confirmed before you commit.

  3. Install

Old engine out, new install in. Done at your mooring, or coordinated with your booked lift slot if a lift is needed. Photos shared as work progresses.

  4. Commission and handover

Sea trial, alignment under load, fine-tuning, and a written handover with service intervals and what to watch.

  • City & Guilds qualified

Properly trained marine engineering, not handyman improvisation.

  • Mobile to your mooring

Work happens at your boat wherever possible, saving time and hassle.

  • Breakdown callouts

Stuck on the water? Get in touch and a callout can be arranged.

  • Fully insured

Public liability cover in place for every job, on every boat.
